CALL FOR PAPERS

China’s socio-cultural Transition and Urban Development in the Past 70 Years

Schools of Social Development, East China Normal University

ECNU School of Social Development is comprised of five departments/institutes, including sociology, demography, anthropology, folklore, and social work, with faculty members from a wide variety of disciplines, whose research projects span a range of topics. In the era of rapid urbanization, as a top university located in China's largest metropolitan area, the School focuses on all aspects of urban sociology. The Forum on Urban Society is an annual meeting held by the School since its establishment in 2009.

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 10th anniversary of the School of Social Development, the 10th International Forum on Urban Society will be held in Shanghai on October 25-27, 2019, with the theme of “China’s socio-cultural Transition and urban development in the past 70 Years”.

We cordially invite you to take the time to participate. The relevant information is hereby pre-announced as follows:

Time

Registration on October 25th, 2019; conference and group discussion on the26th and 27th, 2019.

Topics

We encourage submissions from the perspectives of multiple disciplines – including but not limited to sociology, demography, anthropology, folklore, social work, geography, economics and political science. The topics of the conference include but are not limited to the following areas:

1Reforming urban-rural relations and Social Development in China since 1949;

2Chinese social stratification and social mobility;

3Urban life in contemporary China;

4Migration and demographic trends in China;

5China's social policy and social work development in the past 70 years

6Family, migration, and urbanization;

7Chinese social transformation and folklore studies

8Urban space and cultural changes of ethnic groups

  

Paper Submission

Please send the full paper to the following email: ecnusoc@163.com before September 15, 2019. The organizer of the conference will send an invitation letter to the participating scholars by email upon our selections based on the quality of all submitted papers.

Conference Language

The official languages are Chinese and English. Papers and PowerPoint presentations should be prepared in English or Chinese.

  

Fees

All participants are exempt from registration fee, but need to pay the transportation and accommodation fee by themselves. Meals will be provided for all participants.
